The 2009 NBA Playoffs began yesterday, and every home team lost except for The Cavaliers who demolished the Pistons at home. Today was the Lakers turn to hold off and protect their home court as the Jazz came into Staples Center for game1 of the first round Playoffs.
The Utah Jazz come into the Playoffs as the 8th seed and have struggled down the stretch of the regular season. They trailed most of the game, but lingered and kept it close in the second half, but the Lakers held them off with some great Defense. Carlos Boozer had a very quiet game but out up numbers, scoring 27 points and grabbing 9 rebounds. Paul Millsap, who is undersized at his position also contributed with 15 points and grabbed 8 boards. Derron Williams, the floor general had solid game with 16 points and 17 assists in a losing effort against Los Angeles.
The Lakers, who for the second straight year, come into the playoffs as the top seed came into today's game strong. Leading most of the game, but collapsing a bit on the defensive side in the 2nd half, after having a commanding 22 point lead at the half. Kobe Bryant led the way with 24 points and 7 assists, Pau Gasol added 20 points, 9 rebounds and 4 Blocks. Lamar Odom was a spark plug with 13 points and 8 rebounds, but the story for the Lakers was their young forward, Trevor Ariza who had a playoff career high of 21 points while shooting 8-10 from the field and 3-4 from 3 point range.
This is a video of Kobe Bryant hitting a tough shit in the first half of today's game, and pretty much shows how the rest of the afternoon went for the Lake Show.
